“The fact that children
can make beautiful music
is less significant than the fact
that music can make beautiful children.”
- Cheryl Lavender
Music and movement in the early childhood classroom is an essential part of a child's day. Music activities are designed to enhance children’s cognitive, language, physical, creative, and social-emotional development. Additionally, early experience with different musical concepts, genres, and styles helps foster a lifelong love of and appreciation for the music itself. Physical participation and interpretation is critically important for active young children at this stage of development. To be successful, we create opportunities for singing, body and hand movement, using simple instruments, watching and listening in order to achieve a degree of desired musical appreciation in our students.
Our music program uses a holistic approach to music making song, speech, body percussion, instruments, and movement all part of process. Our music teacher, Jimmy Maguire, brings preschool teaching experience and energy to our once a week music classes. Classroom teachers join Jimmy to assist, and parents are welcome to visit music classes with prior arrangement. Just be sure to bring your singing voice because EVERYONE participates!
