4s Program

“The prime purpose of being four is to enjoy being four - of secondary importance is to prepare for being five.”
- Jim Trelease

The 4s Montessori-inspired Program at CCDS is the perfect blend of play and work! We believe that play is a child’s work. Children play to learn, to grow and to experience the world around them. Classroom learning centers are ever changing and designed to meet the developmental needs of the four-year-old child.

Is the Program academic?

Of course! Everything that we do at CCDS is Montessori-inspired and based on best practices in education and current research. Children need to have hands on learning experiences that are meaningful and relevant to their lives. Children need to MOVE and need to believe in themselves in order to become confident and competent leaders in our world. We provide them the opportunity to explore, imagine and create.

What areas of development are fostered in the four year old program?

Kindergarten Readiness Skills are thematic units that are designed to promote:

  • Socio-emotional growth - The ability to separate from parents, sharing materials and taking turns, ability to express needs and communicate within a group setting, demonstrate care and concern for others and independent problem solving

  • Fine motor development - Focus on small muscle control

  • Auditory processing skills - Understanding and responding to verbal cues

  • Visual discrimination- Distinguishing between letters, words and numbers

  • Gross motor development - Focus on large muscle control

  • Phonemic awareness - The ability to recognize, differentiate and manipulate the individual sound units in spoken words

  • Early mathematical concepts - Number sense, one-to-one correspondence, spatial sense, measurement, patterns, estimation and problem solving
